We bring a wedge when we travel. It’s great for propping doors open so you can get your luggage into a room or cabin. It’s also a security device to secure your door in hotel rooms. The best use of all on a cruise is for the balcony door to keep it from sliding side-to-side and slamming.

The Wedge We Carry

This is a Wedge-It Ultimate Door Stop. It’s a hideous color of green – which ensures that we never lose it. Also, it’s nearly indestructible.

It’s great for securing hotel door rooms when you travel. If you anticipate more doors – bring more. Once we were in a hotel room with a front door, side door, and back door! Plus a sliding glass door.

The shape makes it able to hold doors open from the top, hinge, or floor, or hold them closed.

Balcony Does Not Lock; Why This Is a Problem

The balcony door will not lock from the outside. That’s so you don’t get locked out on the balcony.

However, the problem is, when you are on the balcony in any sort of seas; the door slams back and forth!

This is a certain way to anger your neighbors in the cabins on either side of your cabin.

Room Attendant’s Wedge

To prevent the balcony door from sliding to and fro; we inserted the room attendant’s wedge as in you see the photo above.

We let him know that his wedge was on the balcony, and gave him full use of our Wedge-It at the cabin door.

The Wedge-It was perfect for holding the “front” door open while we brought our dive gear bags in and out of the cabin, or our luggage.
