Between Richmond, VA and Washington, DC, Fort A.P. Hill Whitetail RV Park is situated on base near woods and streams. There are 30 full 50 amp hookup sites. Eight are pull-through, 22 are back-in, and more are under construction.

All sites have water, sewer, electric, asphalt pad and a picnic table.

Whitetail RV Park is open year-round. There is limited wi-fi at the RV Service Center, which also houses a bathhouse and laundry facility.

The center has a lounge area near the washing machines and dryers.

Although we were at Whitetail RV Park only overnight, I walked around to look at the facilities.

Close by there is a track enclosed by a stone wall, and a playground inside.

More camping sites are under construction.

Also, on every base where we have stayed, there is one similarity. There always are areas with bird feeders and butterfly gardens. There are flowers planted for bees, and space set aside for wildlife. It’s very forward-thinking of the military to do this.

My morning walk took me past the water tower and Quartermaster building.

There’s a huge open field here criss-crossed by paved roads. Some concrete pads are there with short metal framework on them.

It would be a perfect spot to learn to drive a car or motorcycle. Endless roads, soft grass in between each lane.

Each MWR facility has very different rules and procedures.

I believe you can get a feel for the type of camping and people by reading through each facility’s guidelines.

Do not leave children under 15 years of age unattended. Dogs must be kept on leash under 10 feet at all times. No meat processing outside of your rv or in the rv center. No dumping animal carcasses on post. No washing rv’s or pov’s. No kerosene heat. Also, no metal detecting or magnet fishing.

Tell me what you think in the comments below; does anything stand out to you?

Within walking distance of the RV Park is a family-friendly pond with nature hiking trails and a boat ramp.  We weren’t there long enough to go look at those amenities, but that’s definitely of interest to us!

Kayak rentals are available at Outdoor Recreation.

Doe and spotted fawn grazing next to rv park. I saw a lot of animal scat everywhere.

Walking the area in the morning, I saw a skunk, three deer, heard quail, and found a turkey feather. The campground is surrounded by large fields of tall grass bordered by trees.

Hunting, kayaking, fishing and boating opportunities are available in the area according to the website.

Whitetail RV Park offers up to 60-day stays in peak season, and up to 90-day stays in the off-season. That’s unusually long for a MWR facility.

More information about hunting and fishing are at isportsman including hunting, trapping, and fishing regulation. Also available are deer and turkey reports, and even planting maps.

Campers are allowed one vehicle at their rv site. Overflow vehicles park here at the RV Service Center.
