Smartest Scuba Cruise Ship Dive Trip Charging Hack
For our Serenade of the Seas Panama and Costa Rica Cruise Ship Dive Trip in March, we knew we needed charging capability. We know we have so many dive computers, flashlights, cameras, and more devices that need to be charged. One of our best cruise hacks is to utilize the 220 volt plugs in the cabin. Here’s how we accomplish that while staying out of the naughty room for confiscated items.
Charging Multiple Items
We’re always looking for ideas on how to make our cruise ship dive trips easier. One thing is for certain – if you are diving, you have a lot of items that need to be charged.
We routinely have two torches each; a main and a backup, so there’s four batteries to charge right there. Then a camera each, with more batteries. Plus two camera lights. Add in two dive computers each, a couple laptops and cell phones, and suddenly you need a huge amount of charging capability.
That’s 16 items! Plus maybe a book reader, electric shaver, any anything else! Wow!

The Adaptor We Now Use
These European Travel Plug Adaptors feature two usb type C hubs, but also, they have a regular three-prong plug.
They are fairly lightweight and compact, but worth their size and weight in our luggage. These are not converters – only adaptors. Also, they have a power indicator light.
This Sneaky Little Beauty
This is the Anker GaNPrime 65W Charging Station and Power Strip. The features are that it not only is a five-in-one power strip with two AC plugs. One on the top, one on the bottom.
Then, there’s also a USB A and two USB C plugs, AND a three foot extension cord. Because it is wound around the base of the device and covered; it does not look like an extension cord, so always passes through luggage handling. They come in black or white.

We Saw Their Vacuums
We knew the vacuums the room attendants use work in the 220 volt outlets, so we decided to use those outlets ourselves. Funny enough – this one is battery-operated! Something new in their tools.
We have capitalized on the US plugs as well as the foreign plugs on the cruise ships. So far, we have gotten great use out of a pair of these 220V adaptors. In addition, we love the power station that increases the number of items we can charge at the same time.
European Travel Plug Adaptor Accessibility
On Royal Caribbean, some ships have only one of the 220V outlets in the cabin at the vanity, like here on Serenade of the Seas.
On Jewel of the Seas, there were two of these 220V plugs at the vanity – so we used both adaptors.
However, there always are two 110 outlets, so the power strips will work in either.
