Fort Meade is between Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington DC.

This camp is a lot larger than Seymour Johnson in the last article, with almost 40 campsites. It is extremely handicap-friendly, with several sites clearly marked and close to bathhouses.

Every site has a fire pit and a green metal picnic table. There is a very large bathhouse with laundry room, lounge, and game room. No Wi-Fi.

This is one of the prettiest camps we’ve been in, with lots of trees.

There are two big loops of regularly organized, lined-up on an angle rv sites. In between some of these are handicap spots with cabins. And across from the campground is a big softball park and pavilions.

There is road noise and engine brakeing that you can hear at night. There are more lights around the campground. When comparing Ft. Meade to Paris Island MWR where you are setting up in a field in the sun with no shade; this is a treat.

When we arrived, I saw a groundhog. At this location, I walked the entire campground and then headed for the nature trail around the pond and immediately saw a rabbit. There are tiny rabbits everywhere, and you’re not supposed to feed the ducks or the geese.

I was worried that the geese were like the African geese of my childhood that chase you, but these ladies and gents all seemed very polite and friendly. And there were even four Mallards hiding in with them.

At 6:25 there were some bugles, then at 6:30 the whole song as I was walking around the pond.

I love that there are butterfly gardens in various stages of growth like they were purposely planned out to be staggered, and also lots of bird houses! And they are being used! I saw a bird couple pop out of one of them.

Around the pond was some very pretty and extremely fragrant milkweed. It helped to mask the scent of the Canadian goose poop.

The bathrooms were individual and large.

There was some heavy equipment traffic nearby as more campsites are being built and landscaped. The sites wound in amongst the trees is so nice, everything was neat as a pin and well-maintained.

Their after-hours procedure was very nice, they call and make sure you have the gate code and the restroom code if you have not arrived by 6:00 p.m. We made it into the main gate just as it was closing at six due to an unscheduled stop at a tire company with a broken belt in one of my tires.

There were lovely lightning bugs at night, and there are these pretty little lit trails.

Walking around here, you feel very much that you are in and on the base. You’re not way out on a nature trail, the closest thing to that is walking around the pond where there are lots of pavilions. I can tell the snow gets high here because all of the fire department hydrants have a tall flag on them so they don’t get mowed over by snow plows.

The price on the laundry machines was $1.50 a load.

One of two lounges at the campsites.

We did not get to go into the big rec center outside the code gate to the actual campground. The rec center would be where reception is, but we came too late then left early. They left a note on the window for late arrivals, so you know they knew you were coming and it reminds you what camp spot you’re in. Inside the rece center is probably some games, and through the window. I remember seeing convenience-style upright glass-front coolers that look like they had a selection of drinks, and there was a neon pizza sign.

If your rig is super super long, they put you in one of the spots where there is a place for your vehicles over to the side. Sites are $60 a night.

There is a big hook at every campsite, I guess to hang a light or a hammock?

Every site had one electric and pump out. There are cabins for rent $65 a night.
