Gotta Lose the Plastic

Here’s my closet. It is organized, and it is neat. However, I can’t stand the plastic boxes that store my shoes.

They hold in moisture, they are opaque and hard to see into, and they are plastic.

Many of them house more than one pair of shoes. I have to put printed photos of each pair on the end to know what I even have. Several pairs never get worn because I can’t even see them. Here’s my brilliant solution!

Solution: Shoe Cubicles

After several measurements, I selected the ClosetMaid 8983 Stackable 15-Unit Organizer, in White.

I was terrified. 30 cubicles. At least 65 pairs of shoes formerly crammed into those hideous plastic boxes.

However, I had no idea how wonderful my life would be once I got these organizers in place.

Some Assembly Required

The ClosetMaid 8983 Stackable 15-Unit Organizer in White arrived in boxes. Boxes in boxes.

They actually are very easy to assemble and came with complete instructions.

Once assembled, they are dimensionally stable, with a back piece to fully secure them.

Durability Concerns

Understandably, these organizers are not wood, and are not made for heavy use.

My pumps and boots don’t plan any arduous actions in there.

They would not be a great choice for a child’s room, but they are perfect for showcasing my high heels.

Bright and Cheery

Once in place, I realized the new shoe organizers added a lot of light and air into the top of my closet.

Additionally, my shoes were able to “breathe” and air out after wearings.

There is a bit of extra space – perfect for showcasing favorite boots or beloved purses. I moved the gap to the right and featured a couple mirrors to reflect the back and view the front of a few of my treasured purses.

Unexpected Bonus Features

While I knew these organizers would make my closet look more organized, I had no idea the rest of the bonus aspects.

First, the organizers made it imperative that I hone down my shoe collection. That was probably needed. I weeded out shoes in poor repair, damaged heels, seldom-worn shoes.

What I had no idea of was the joy looking at my shoes would bring. Also, I didn’t realize that by showcasing my shoes, the organizers inspired me to put on the most beautiful, most attractive shoes on display. That meant now I wear only the shoes that bring me complete joy.
