With Four Locations, This Counts as “Off the Chain” for us!

European Street Cafe in San Marco was our destination recently when we were in the area for a watch pickup at Underwood Jewelers. San Marco is a neighborhood in Jacksonville established in 1907 after the American Civil War. It lies across the St. Johns River and south of downtown. San Marco Square is the commercial section featuring boutiques, art galleries, and a dining district.

With a glance at their menu, I knew the E Street French dip with provolone had my name all over it. Bill chose their Blue Max with smoked pastrami, hot mustard, corned beef, melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and blue cheese dressing. Both were served hot with chips and a generous pickle spear.

While waiting for our selections, we perused their extensive selection of beers, candies, and baked goods at the European Street Cafe. Each table features a map of a different area of Europe, and there is seating at a beer bar as well with taps for a swift pint of your favorite imported lager.

We’ll definitely be back for a bowl of their famous beer cheese soup. I can’t wait to try one of their salads with a plate of German sausage, or maybe one of the seven types of Reuben sandwiches on the menu. Plenty of vegetarian selections are offered, and for dessert; there are dozens of choices.
