Scuba Diving Equipment Forecast to 2026 Predicts 4% CAGR // This Dive Flag You Will Want Is Why
If you shore dive, you need a dive flag. Most of them are unwieldy and space-consuming. You are going to want one of these collapsible dive flags! I was looking for an umbrella in our garage and ran across a forgotten folded-up dive flag in a slim mesh bag. What a perfect idea – a collapsable dive flag that is light and small enough to take on any vacation anywhere! We’ve used the inflatable dive flag before, but this one is so much better, and I’ll tell you all the reasons why.

Size and Weight
The length of this compact dive flag is well under three feet long; 28 inches, so it can fit in many dive rolling bags like our Akona backpacks. It weighs in at one pound, 10 ounces.
If that weight worries you, read this: How We Cut Our Dive Gear Weight by 38 Pounds for Travel. Under two pounds? No problem! We’ve got ideas for how you can lighten your dive gear by a lot more than that.
Weight-wise, this dive flag is not even all that heavy to carry by hand, and it will eat only a teeny bit into your luggage allowance. However, if you dive from cruises like we sometimes do; weight is no issue at all anyway.

Ingenious Disassembling Design
The dive flag has one collapsible pole to hoist it, and a second to keep it deployed. That means everything breaks down to a small dimension packable set.
If there is any design flaw; it is that you will want to add a clip or tie of some type to keep the flag attached to the float.
Also, since the flag poles collapse; I wonder why the entire pole doesn’t as well. I might scrounge around for an unused tent section the same length and see if I can break it down even further!

Material Quality
The flag is of very stiff, durable material, and does not need wind to be visible since it has a batten to keep it stiffly stretched out.
Ten feet of floaty polypropoline line is a good visible yellow color and soft in the hands. It can very neatly attach to a spool reel, or one of those elbow-holders. I would keep an eye on the crimped attachment, and add a backup knot in case of future failure or corrosion. There’s a hook-and-loop strap for storing it neatly.
Metal tips on the poles are aluminum; so they will not corrode.
The floating tube shape of this dive flag is so much easier to pack than the traditional round ball style, and does not take up much space or roll around.

Modifications Needed
With one pole sliding into the leading edge of the flag; there is no capture ability. The flag could slide off, taking the sticks with it. A solution is to clip or tie the top of the flag to the bottom of the float.

Hefty Weight
While inflatable-type dive flags need water or sand added for ballast; this dive flag comes with a pretty substantial one pound lead weight with easily-accessible eye for tying to lines.
Since this might cause the flag to dip in heavy currents, there also is a tie eye just under the float. It is plastic, so I would check it regularly if you put it under tremendous pressure.
Flat rather than round; this lead weight it can pack slightly easier than the traditional golf ball-sized weights. An added bonus is this dive flag weight does not roll around in the back of the car!

Good Pleasure Diving Solution
For the extremely reasonable price, this dive flag is a great solution for a travel dive flag. I’ll let you know if I am able to modify it further with another collapsing pole.
It’s a generic, no-name brand, and called the 2 Piece Cylinder Float With Dive Flag.
