2020 SPRING FOWARD RACE // ST. AUGUSTINE SAILING SISTERS // Deep Water Happy

FEATURED in this video is our day of racing on a 36 foot Jeanneau Sun Odyssey, “Rendezvous With Destiny” from St. Augustine Sailing. The race was hosted by the St. Augustine Sailing Sisters.

There were two classes; ALL-Female and Mixed Crew. We raced in the All-Female category. The course was set on the Intracoastal Waterway in St. Augustine, North of the Fred and Mary Usina Vilano Beach Bridge.

The original race was to be four laps, however, the course was shortened to three laps. Winds were 20-25 knots. The current was running either with or against us, depending on the leg, at about five knots due to the full moon.

We started first in our class, held the lead through the entire race, and finished first in our class. However, due to our handicap rating, we actually finished second in our class.

There was plenty of commercial traffic before the start of the race, and even during the race.

Thanks to the St. Augustine Sailing Sisters, SASS, for hosting the race. SASS is a group of sailing women who work to improve themselves and the community by raising funds and awareness for organizations that help female victims of abuse.
